If you’re a Star Wars fan and have read the novels then you might be aware of the evil Yuuzhan Vong. Also known as the far outsiders, the Yuuzhan Vong have actually been around the Star Wars universe for a long time. I don’t want to get ahead of myself, what I’m doing here is offering a refresher course on the Yuuzhan Vong in preparation for the new Star Wars comic book fittingly called Invasion. The first issue is already out on stands so be sure to pick it up, if you feel like you might be lost with this aspect of Star Wars lore, then my friend you should read on.

The Far Outsiders

There are several instances where the Yuuzhan Vong are referred to as the Far Outsiders. This comes from an era in Star Wars history where little was known about the race. The Far Outsiders were named by a species called the Chiss. The Chiss live on the border of the unknown regions that lie outside the known Star Wars galaxy and first came in contact with the Yuuzhan Vong during the Clone Wars. That’s the thing to remember about the Yuuzhan Vong, they have been around in the background for centuries, going as far back as to run into Canderous Ordo and a clan of Mandalorians way back when.

Motives

So, did the Vong attack Republic space without reason? That answer is a difficult one to manage because there isn’t an exact one. It’s important to point out that the Yuuzhan Vong have been cut off from the force for millennia. Somewhere along the lines of their evolution they were cut off from the force, possibly by the very planet they lived on. This is important for understanding the motivation for their attack on the Republic.

A long time ago the Yuuzhan Vong were subjected to a brutal war between two Droid like species. This war was very costly to the Yuuzhan Vong and bred in them a deep animosity for technology. It is believed that this hatred of technology spurred the Vong into invading what is considered known space.

Invasion

The latest comic book from Dark Horse will put you right in the heart of the Yuuzhan Vong War. The key players involved are Luke Skywalker, now the leader of the new Jedi Order. His wife Mara Jade Skywalker and the Solo clan (Han and Leia along with their children). Those are the characters that you’re probably familiar with but get ready to meet a whole host of new characters as well.

Finally

This is the story that I’ve been waiting years for. Finally a chance to see Luke Skywalker in his prime and kicking major ass across the galaxy. The Luke Skywalker you see in the movies is nothing compared to the man he will eventually become. If you’ve never read a Star Wars comic but love Star Wars then this is the series for you.
