News and notes from the week in comics

Welcome back to the Book Report where we break down the biggest news in comics from around the net.

According to Superhero Hype Elizabeth Banks won’t be coming back as Betty Brant for the rest of the Spider-Man franchise. Apparently the role isn’t big enough for Banks, “If it's that small, I probably won't do it. They don't need Betty Brant. It's purely, at this point - and I don't think they see it this way - it's kind of a favor at this point.

I guess she has a point, after all it wasn’t her fault part three sucked.

According to TFW2005.com co-writer Robert Orci dispelled some rumors about the Transformers sequel. Apparently there was a rumor flying around that Soundwave would make an appearance as a pick-up truck, according to Orci that is false.

It looks like the Flash movie has hit a snag according to ShockTillYouDrop.com. The Dark Knight producer Charles Rovin said there was ‘no momentum’ on the comic book adaptation of the Flash. David Dobkin had been announced as director but that was over a year ago.

Here’s a quote from Terrance Howard on the news that he will be replaced in Iron Man 2: "It was the surprise of a lifetime," he said. "There was no explanation. [The contract] just...up and vanished. I read something in the trades implicating that it was about money or something, but apparently the contracts that we write and sign aren't worth the paper that they're printed on, sometimes. Promises aren't kept, and good faith negotiations aren't always held up."

They won’t be making a He-Man movie after all. Apparently the execs at Warner Bros. are a little gun shy (and rightfully so) about the project and decided to kill it rather than risk making a so-so to crappy movie. Come on people, there was no way this movie was going to be good.

So Sam Raimi talked to MTV.com about the next Spider-Man movie and it wasn’t very encouraging: "I'm really excited about Spider-Man, and I'm hoping to direct it," he cautioned. "I don't have a script yet, but production would start probably by March of 2010, I'm guessing. It sounds like a long time away, but we need a script first, and a lot of pre-production has to take place." Did we hear that right? He hopes to direct? Could this mean that Spider-Man will have a different director? Hopefully we’ll have answers to those questions soon.

Daniel Craig was approached by Marvel to play the role of Thor and (thankfully) said no. Not that Daniel Craig isn’t a great actor, he’s just not friggin’ Thor. I don’t know Marvel is starting to sound pretty bad these days. The fun will all be over if Marvel puts together a string of bombs.
