Hey true believers and welcome back to the Book Report. This week we have the return of someone very special to comics, an interesting issue of Spider-Man, more Dark Reign and a visit with the Vigilante. April is looking like a good month for comics so strap in and read on.
Vigilante #4
This issue is a tie in, but told strictly from Vigilante’s perspective. It seems like the Jericho saga isn’t quite over, and now Vigilante is in the mix. Fans of the Titans series might want to check this book out, and we’ll have a rundown of the first five issues coming soon enough. This is a series to watch for that is only just beginning.
Flash Rebirth #1
Firstly, our own Iann Robinson will be covering this exciting first issue in detail soon. I’m just here to tell you to buy it, because I’ve read it and it’s great. Barry is most certainly back in action (for a minute I was worried that he wouldn’t want the suit anymore) but there is something deeper happening that needs to be explained. This series is sure to be a big one, do yourself a favor and get this title before it’s all gone.
The Invincible Iron Man #12
Things go from bad to worse in this really exciting book. Broken into three parts that follow three different characters we find out a lot about Tony, Norman Osborn, and the evil the he is allowing to run loose in the country. Namor the Submariner guest stars in a great fight sequence. Personally I think Namor makes this issue based on sheer coolness alone.
New Avengers: The Reunion #2
Dark Reign appears on the cover of this book, but the relevancy is still escaping me. That doesn’t mean that the book isn’t good however. The series has some big reveals so far and they really make sense out of how Mockingbird was abducted right from under everyone’s nose. The dialogue in this particular issue is great as more and more info is disseminated to the reader. I would toss this book in the ‘fun’ category and worry about how it ties into Dark Reign later.
The Amazing Spider-Man #590
I consider myself a Spider-Man fan, but this issue threw me for a loop. I have no recollection of Peter showing Johnny Storm his secret ID. I’ve been reading Spider-Man for years and have no recollection of that. Can anyone point out the issue where Peter reveals his secret Identity to Johnny? If you know the issue let me know on the message boards and I’ll see if there a prize lying around that I can send out to you. At any rate, it looks like the façade that is One More Day is starting to show cracks. It’s done in flashbacks and is the center piece for this entire issue. This book will definitely leave you scratching your head, but in a good way!
