World War Hulk is Finally Here! But that's not saying much.

I have been waiting for this. The Hulk is coming back to the Marvel universe to smash like he’s never smashed before. Well that’s what Marvels been saying, now I’m a little hesitant to agree. I was under the impression he would be showing up with an army at his back. Nope. He’s got like five guys with him, and they don’t look that tough. But I guess that’s okay since it is Hulk after all. I mean, he does have a sword now right? Look at it this way, the only thing worse than being savagely beaten by the Hulk, is being savagely stabbed by the Hulk.

All kidding aside, while World War Hulk probably will turn out to be a great series, issue 106 isn’t exactly the best example of things to come. Firstly, you only see Hulk in a flashback, secondly there was a ‘prologue’ released at the same time and one of the flashbacks is from that prologue. So far we have two World War books, with no War and very little Hulk. I’m beginning to worry that this might be another cheap trick used to get me to buy books that I really don’t need (a trick I have and will fall for again and again), I thought Marvel promised to stop doing that. Plus, what’s the deal this kid, is he the next Rick Jones (please God no)?

The whole issue follows Amadeus Cho as he get’s wrapped up in Jennifer Walter’s life as she deals with what the Illuminati did to her cousin. Cho’s connection to Hulk is pretty weak, which really hurts the story, and (I hate to say this) I really don’t like the artwork in this book. Cho looks down right creepy, and everyone looks like their ninety years old most of the time. The art will be solid on one page and totally ragged the next, it really hurts the story.

I have to say that things aren’t starting out on the best terms for the big green machine. I will however reserve judgment until the series really gets underway. Marvel has managed to put together a pretty good run in the last half a year or so, I’d hate to see them blow it now.

Seventh smartest kid in the world or no, Dante Maddox thinks he’s still lame.
