J. Michael Straczynski is a hard man to love. No, I don’t know him personally. I’m talking from a fan perspective. As a reader I get the sense that JMS knows exactly where he wants his story to go, and has plans on top of plans for getting a character from point a to point b. But other times, it’s like he cuts corners or forgets something glaring that leaves me scratching my head. One More Day is a huge head scratcher just for example. The revelation in issue 12 of Thor also has me trying to figure out what is going on all of a sudden.
First off a lot of credit has to be given to JMS because the story he’s telling is bigger than it seems. He’s singlehandedly redefining part of the structure of the Marvel universe. Even with that, there’s something that doesn’t make sense to me. In issue 12 of the series we find out that Loki used time travel to bring about his own existence as Loki and everything that comes along with it. That means that Loki creates the prophecy of his existence and the bringing about of Ragnarok right? Isn’t the existence of the gods of Asgard an endless cycle that Thor just recently broke? How the hell does time travel fit into this mess?
As if that weren’t enough the secret of Loki’s female form has been revealed and boy if it’s not a hoot. So Hela figured out that the female form that Loki is ‘stuck’ in is none other than Sif’s form. We know that the Lady Warrior is trapped in the body of a dying woman or some such rubbish, but you mean to tell me that Loki is walking around looking exactly like Sif and THOR DOESN'T SEEM TO NOTICE THE STARTLING RESEMBLANCE BETWEEN THE TWO?!?!?!? Are you serious?
In all fairness Thor is an excellent title, it’s just having a bit of a hiccup right now. Hopefully all will be explained soon.
