Comic Con is a blast of comics, movies, games and collectibles. Fans headed down to the San Diego convention center in droves to see the latest trailers, images and stars of their favorite films and TV shows. This year was no different than past years with a great line up of upcoming projects of all sorts.
This year we take a look at the “Top 9 Moments of 2009 Comic-Con”.
The final Lost panel at Comic Con
Fans of Lost already know that the upcoming season will be the last for the popular show. Every year tons of fans line up for hours to see show producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof talk about the show as well as answer questions from the fans. In the final Lost panel fans got to see cast members like Jorge Garcia and Michael Emerson. The producers made a really memorable panel for the fans to remember.
The Twilight Saga comes to Comic Con
The Twilight Saga is kind of a newcomer to Comic Con, so regular fans were worried when it was announced that there would be a panel for the Twilight sequel New Moon in Hall H. The cast was a big hit with the primarily teen girl audience and brought a new group of fans to San Diego this year.
Peter Jackson comes to Comic Con
In his first appearance at Comic Con the Lord of the Rings director, joined director Neill Blomkamp to talk to the fans about their new science fiction film, District 9. The pair also updated fans on their other projects like The Hobbit (Jackson) and the proposed Halo film (Blomkamp).
All new Tron 2 footage
Well over twenty years after the release of the Disney Science Fiction film Tron comes the sequel, Tron Legacy. The film made an appearance last year as Tron 2. This year Disney showed off some amazing footage (Tron 2 footage) featuring a light cycle chase that will have people talking for weeks.
New Kick Ass footage
The comic adaptation of the Mark Millar (Wanted) comic Kick Ass is one of the most anticipated adaptations in years. Kick Ass is the very often violent, but humorous story of a kid who becomes a masked vigilante. Fans were able to see some all new footage and unlike some other comic adaptations, they were not disappointed at the direction the film has taken.
3 New films from Marvel Animation
Marvel Animation has really jumped in to gear lately and has been releasing films more frequently than ever before. What started with the Ultimate Avengers films a few years ago has grown in to several releases a year. This year fans at Comic Con were able to see three all new Marvel animated trailers for Planet Hulk and the new team up with Anime studio Madhouse for anime inspired Iron Man and Wolverine films.
Johnny Depp’s surprise appearance
Tim Burton fans knew that he would appear at Comic Con to talk about his new film Alice in Wonderland, what they did not know was that he would be joined by the occasionally media shy actor, Johnny Depp. In one of the best kept secrets at Comic Con, the actor shocked the crowd with his unannounced appearance.
25 Minutes of Avatar footage
Expectations were high for the years in the making James Cameron 3D science fiction film Avatar. No one expected more than a trailer or possible some short footage. What the audience at Comic Con actually saw was 25minutes of some of the most technically impressive footage seen in San Diego.
The Iron Man 2 Panel
This was the most talked about panel of 2009. With most of the pre-con attention focused on the James Cameron 3D epic Avatar, Jon Favreau blew the audience away with preview footage that showed off Mickey Rourke as Whiplash, Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow and Don Cheadle as James Rhodes. The most amazing part of the presentation was the reveal of the character War Machine, which made the audience go crazy.
