First things first, this book should be seen as an example of how you draw in a reader who is new to your series. Reading book 2 of World of Warcraft left me thirsting for the first book, not wishing to God I’d read it so that I didn’t feel lost. As a table top role playing game player this story was right up my alley and a lot of fun to read. Simonson captures all the action and fun of say a Conan series but with new characters from the game World of Warcraft.
The story is pretty simple to follow; a mysterious warrior washes up on a beach with no memory of his former life but with incredible skill. He fights his way to highest ranks of the gladiators and finds a way to restore his memory. Upon regaining his memory he finds out that he is in fact a King and is now on his way to recover his throne. The adventure is about how he manages this incredible feat. Along the way he forges new alliances and gets into lots of fights.
