World of Warcraft book 2
The series is worth a look.

First things first, this book should be seen as an example of how you draw in a reader who is new to your series. Reading book 2 of World of Warcraft left me thirsting for the first book, not wishing to God I’d read it so that I didn’t feel lost. As a table top role playing game player this story was right up my alley and a lot of fun to read. Simonson captures all the action and fun of say a Conan series but with new characters from the game World of Warcraft.

The story is pretty simple to follow; a mysterious warrior washes up on a beach with no memory of his former life but with incredible skill. He fights his way to highest ranks of the gladiators and finds a way to restore his memory. Upon regaining his memory he finds out that he is in fact a King and is now on his way to recover his throne. The adventure is about how he manages this incredible feat. Along the way he forges new alliances and gets into lots of fights.

The artwork is good, but at times doesn’t properly display the action that is being described by the writer. It only takes a little away from an otherwise fun read. I’m not a MMORPG player but I do have a fascination with the game and the people who play it. The book helps understand the world the characters exist in ad it really fleshes all of it out.

The best thing about this book is that it transcends the genre, even if you hated MMORPG’s this book should appeal to your sense of action and adventure. You also get a complete story in one book which is nice. I would suggest starting with book one and then moving to book two, just so you have a complete grip on the situation. World of Warcraft is also available in single issue form as well.
