Each and every week dozens of DVDs hit the shelves, and many of them get lost in the mix. CraveOnline has compiled a list of all the newest DVD releases, with a special emphasis on a few worth keeping an eye out for.
Too Tough to Die: A Tribute to Johnny Ramone
On September 12, 2004, just two-and-a-half days before Johnny Ramone's death, a gathering of musicians and friends - including Blondie's Debbie Harry, The Dickies, X, Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers - held a benefit concert to celebrate The Ramones' 30th anniversary, and to raise money for cancer research. This is Mandy Stein's heart-wrenching rockumentary that captures the energy and somber sense of purpose on this unforgettable evening.
Special Features include audio commentary with Producer/Director Mandy Stein, Johnny Ramone's wife Linda Cummings Ramone and punk rocker Joe Sib.
FUTURAMA: BENDER’S GAME
The Planet Express crew find themselves trapped in a lunatic world where absolutely anything can happen — and does. Matt Groening’s Emmy Award-winning sitcom steps up to the feature film leagues in this animated adventure that brings Billy West back as the voice of goofball pizza delivery boy Philip J. Fry, with John DiMaggio and Katey Sagal reprising their roles as Bender the foul-mouthed idiot robot and Cycloptic captain Turanga Leela. Rich Little and George Takei guest star on what's sure to be a huge seller this holiday season.
The Bourne Trilogy
This is important. You need to buy this. Because it's all 3 Jason Bourne movies in one awesome package. Who cares if they're making another, maybe even two more Bourne films? For just a little while, you can tell everybody that you've got the really cool Jason Bourne Trilogy box sex. Then, when it's outdated... well, that's your problem. You can file it away with your ten incomplete Star Wars sets and Indiana Jones trilogy packs. Maybe it'll be worth something someday. But probably not.
KUNG FU PANDA
Po (Jack Black) is the biggest, furriest Kung Fu fan on earth, but working in his family's noodle shop doesn't exactly prove thrilling and adventurous. That is, until he's chosen to fulfill an ancient prophecy. Soon Po joins the world of Kung Fu, studying alongside his idols, the Furious Five (which happen to consist of a monkey, a tiger, a snake, a crane and a mantis). Tai Lung, the famed treacherous snow leopard is headed their way, and it's up to Po to save the day. His greatest weaknesses become his strengths as Po chases his dreams of being a Kung Fu master.
Yay, they're making a sequel. Because where would the world be without Jack Black's repeated slight variances of the same pudgy narcissism in each and every movie, or Angelina Jolie's overexposed, serpentine sexuality? Pass. Again.
Flashbacks of a Fool
Daniel Craig does more than James Bond films. He also occasionally plays other parts, like washed-up Hollywood actor Joe Scott, who's life kicks back into gear when he receives word of his childhood friend's death. Much of the film is flashback, as Scott is bombarbed with memories from his youth in England, and "the summer that changed his life forever"... God. We're not done with this drivel yet? Olivia Williams (THE SIXTH SENSE) and Claire Forlani (CSI: NY) co-star in this drama that Craig also produced. But Bond comes out really soon, so to hell with this flick.
Shrek The Halls
Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, and Antonio Banderas all return to lend their voices to this deck-the-halls continuation of the Shrek saga. Except it's 22 minutes long - just long enough to fill a half-hour sitcom time slot, with more than a quarter of the time devoted to commercials. Do I sound cynical? That's because I am. This shit isn't necessary, and if they were going to do it, they should've taken the time to do it right, rather than produce, print, package and pimp 22 minutes of footage that's going to be forgotten the moment it's over. That's right - this will NOT be a "Holiday Classic for the Ages!," no matter how hard they try.
Tenacious D - The Complete Master Works 2
This 2 disc DVD contains over three hours of footage, including an hour-long documentary, a full length live concert filmed in 2007 at the sold-out Moore Theatre in Seattle, WA, several bonus extras including the band's mind-crushing performance on the 2006 MTV Movie Awards, their rendition of "Master Exploder" on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," an classic performance of "The Metal" on Saturday Night Live, all kinds of Tenacious D videos you've seen everywhere else before - and more!
Really, I'm kinda surprised that they're still trying to pimp out the D. But as long as that fat-ass dirty dollar keeps knockin, there's always doors to be opened...
