Welcome to CraveOnline's weekly rundown of movie releases! Here we'll give you the rundown on all the good, the bad and the unwatchable films headed your way this week.
Quantum of Solace
Release Date: November 14
Director: Mark Forster
Starring: Daniel Craig, Gemma Arterton, Judi Dench, Jeffrey Wright
Rated: PG-13
What's being called the leanest, most fast-paced Bond everis hitting the big screen this Friday. The standard snarky Bond dialogue is dismissed this time around, traded for balls-to-the-wall action as 007 attempts to avenge the death of the lover who died two years ago in Casino Royale, Daniel Craig's fantastic Bond debut.
The typical style and character that's known to be 007 tradition is reportedly shoved to the far back burner on Solace, replaced with a non-stop adrenaline rush. With a 105-minute running time -- a full 40 minutes shorter than its predecessor, there's no room for slow dancing.
CraveOnline's Call: Director Marc Forster promises more action than any Bond film has ever seen. A Bond flick that's all fights, chases and death? All of a sudden, we can't wait for this film, and neither can anybody else. No other films want to touch this date.A Christmas Tale
Release Date: November 14
Director: Arnaud Desplechin
Starring: Catherine Deneuve, Jean-Paul Roussillon, Anne Consigny
Rated: PG-13
This French drama centers on a family torn by the strains of wounded relationships coming together for the holidays, pulled together by a scheme concocted by the three youngest family members. The movie was a featured film at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival.
CraveOnline's Call: DVD. Unless your girlfriend hates you and won't let you see Quantum of Solace.
Slumdog Millionaire
Release Date: November 12
Director: Danny Boyle
Starring: Mia Drake, Imran Hasnee, Anil Kapoor, Irfan Khan
Rated: R
Slumdog Millionaire tells the story of Jamal Malik, an orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who's just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India's "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" When the show breaks for the night, however, he's arrested on suspicion of cheating.
In an effort to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum, each chapter of his story unveiling the key to the answer to one of the questions on the show.
CraveOnline's Call: This sounds like a really interesting little story. If there's no space left in the theater for Bond, overflow should head this way.
Fuel
Release Date: November 14
Director: Josh Tickell
Starring: Barbara Boxer, Sir Richard Branson, Sheryl Crow, Larry David, Laurie David, Larry Hagman, Woody Harrelson
Rated: It's a documentary. Come on.
This well-timed film exposes and explores the wildly inappropriate connections between the auto industry, oil industry and the government. This isn't just an anti-coprorate hippie propaganda film, however. It explores new alternative energies and fuels. Hop on the Veggie Van and get a dose of oily Americana.
CraveOnline's Call: Am I going to spend 50 bucks to see a movie that's telling me everything I do is killing the planet? Hell no. But the message is an important one. So Netflix that shit when it hits DVD. We'll let you know.
