Sophie Monk is lovely. She’s got the body, she’s got the face, and a cool sense of humor so you don’t hate her for being beautiful. She’s also very generous, showing herself completely in the horror film The Hills Run Red. She plays the troubled daughter of a long lost horror director, but there’s a lot more to her character, Alexa, that we don’t want to spoil. Monk vamped it up with us last week to excite us about the film’s DVD and Blu Ray release, as if we needed any more convincing.
Crave Online: What was your reaction to sexuality of the film?
Sophie Monk: I think with my character, it was so easy to do because her childhood obviously, she’d been taught that so I just treated it as how she would react like normal. She just thought that was how people acted sexually. They cut out the scene I was actually masturbating my son. I was like that’s full on. But, I do understand that she’d been brought up enclosed, thinking that she was with her father and her sexuality was just part of the way she had to get through life to get things done.
Crave Online: There’s a scene where you’re naked tied up to the bed. Is that an intense thing to film?
Sophie Monk: It is, but it got to the point you knew everyone so well at that point when you’re so tired. We worked really long hours and you’re so close with everyone.
Crave Online: With all you have to do with the character, is it hard to act while all that’s going on?
Sophie Monk: No, you’ve just got to make sure you’re in shape. Most women would otherwise. I’ve been offered Playboy, but doing a film where it’s not me, I feel like it’s very different. That’s how I look at it.
Crave Online: That must be psychological, that it’s okay as long as it’s not the real Sophie Monk.
Sophie Monk: It is, yeah.
Crave Online: And you do a nude scene while you’re strung out.
Sophie Monk: Yeah, and I’ve never done drugs ever. I’ve never done drugs so I was like, “How do you guys sniff cocaine?” And everyone came over. “This is how you do it.” It was hilarious.
Crave Online: Do you enjoy that guys go ga ga over you?
Sophie Monk: No. I swear to god, I’m like a gay man. Inside, I am a man. I don’t understand anyone thinking I’m sexy at all. I don’t get it because growing up as a kid I wasn’t. I was like a dork, fat, so for me it’s really weird. I became famous in Australia when I was 18 and I was still a little bit chubby. Then I came here and started getting asked on dates and was like, “Men like me?” I still don’t really see myself like that.
Crave Online: Don’t you at least see the blonde busty pin-up girls and notice your similarity?
Sophie Monk: Yeah, I do. I try and keep away from that actually. If I wear bright colors or something, I’ll tie all my hair back. I don’t want to look too like Girls Next Door.
Crave Online: You know men prefer that, actually, the pony tail, sweats, no makeup.
Sophie Monk: Yes, but women don’t. Right, but women don’t and that’s what buys magazines so it’s a fine line.
Crave Online: I don’t believe you were dorky by the way.
Sophie Monk: Oh, I am.
Crave Online: Everyone says that, but really they’re still cute.
Sophie Monk: No, no, I genuinely was. I think that’s why I do comedy really well. I’m a comedian mainly, and that’s because I think it’s ridiculous. Like Date Movie, me coming out of the pool. I was like this is exactly how I want to play sexy.
