Angels & Demons, the sequel to The DaVinci Code, debuted strong at the box office last weekend, snatching the #1 spot away from Star Trek with a $48 million showing. The film had the highest per theater average of any in the top ten with $13,609 per theater. Star Trek followed closely behind at #2 with $43 million for a two-week running total of $147.6 million, less than $3 million short of X-Men Origins: Wolverine's total of $151 million. The film placed third with $14.8 million. Whatever the case, they all better get the hell out of the way to make room for Terminator Salvation, which finally hits this week!

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past fell one spot to #4 in its third weekend, earning $6.8 million, while Obsessed fell one spot to #5 in its fourth weekend for a total of $62.5 million. The film had a $20 million budget.

According to Hollywood Daily, Chris Hemsworth has been cast as the title character in the hugely anticipated Thor film. Hemsworth can currently be seen in Star Trek as James T. Kirk's father. Did you miss it? Here's a pic:

He was Commander George Kirk (Chris Hemsworth), shown here on the Kelvin's bridge as shit hits the fan.

Hemsworth had originally read for the Norse God of Thunder, but a casting director put him in the rejects pile. His manager later scored Hemsworth another reading for the role, which locked the part.

Greg from Hitflix also clued us in on Hemsworth scoring the lead role in MGM's remake of Red Dawn that's also in development this year.

 Thor opens June 17th, 2011.
