Compiling a list of the Best Sci-Fi Films Of All Time is quite a daunting task, given Hollywood's track record for outdoing itself with better special effects and flashier remakes than what came before. It's no easy task to narrow the list down to ten, but to celebrate the December 22 release of sci-fi thriller District 9 on Blu-ray and DVD, we did our best!
Terminator 2: Judgement Day

T2 is James Cameron at his glorious best. Arnold Schwarzenegger reverses his role as the killing machine to become John Connor's protector against a more advanced Terminator - one that can shapeshift. Linda Hamilton toughens up Sarah Connor for the fight against the future with her son, the leader of the resistance and the last hope for mankind. With groundbreaking special effects and a career-peaking Guns N' Roses on board for the soundtrack, T2 was an unstoppable force that still holds up to this day.
Total Recall

Loosely based on Philip K Dick’s short story We Can Remember It For You Wholesale, Total Recall is the ultimate sci-fi action-adventure flick. When Arnold Schwarzenegger discovers that his memories are fake, he heads to Mars to find the truth - but it's a lot more complicated than he bargained for. Mutant insect-armed double-agent taxi drivers, three-breasted hookers and a blue sky on Mars equals one hell of a ride.
The Fifth Element

Luc Besson's brilliantly-colored kaleidoscopic cityscapes outline this fantastic futuristic fable about the savior of the universe and an army of aliens hunting her. Elaborate Gaultier-designed costumes and bizarre future trends are just the tip of the weirdo iceberg here, but the vision is so committed and convincing that one can't help but gravitate to the story.
