Anybody going to the World Series of Poker, which is going on until July 15th at the Rio Casino in Vegas? If you attend, you'll note numerous different arch-type poker players stacking their chips around the tables. |
Here is an anthropological survey of the type of players that can be found at any given International poker tournament.
HEADPHONE GUY

Yes, he uses his iPod shuffle to musically inspire him to get the good luck poker mojo. What is he listening to? Is it the theme from Rocky or is it a subliminal motivation tape by Tony Robbins telling him to awaken the giant within. Judging by the amount of chips amassed in front of him must be listening to the Jonas Brothers.
SUNGLASSES GUY

This eyewear accessory almost seems like cheating, but it's actually a common part of the poker playing uniform. It enables the other players not be able to read your crazy eyes; whether they are filled with panic or greedy glee. Once you have the sunglasses on remember not to take them off.
“He went from straight-laced sunglasses to very worried eyes", one player mentioned later regarding player sunglasses removal. "He looked like he was about to be pulled over by the cops.”
HEADPHONE SUNGLASSES HAT GUY

This player is sporting the full poker playing regalia. There's no reading him; not even a stressed creasing of the brow, as he's musically tuned out from the rest of the card playing world around him.
SUNGLASSES HAT GUY

This player embraces shielding his eyes and brow, but has gone sans headphones. The only sound he wants to hear is the clanking of chips in front of him. Maybe listening to the sound of the cards is his specialty in determine which hand the other players have, but yet he hasn't mastered how to hide his reaction to this and thus the hat and sunglasses.
