Crave Online: And not just about sports?

John Salley: Most of the things I do are not about sports. That’s an aspect, even though I may come back to it, that’s just an aspect on how I do things.

Crave Online: And it’s a new frontier. Where do you see that going?

John Salley: I see that as being bigger than most things. The reason I say that is I have a 12-year-old daughter. I have a 21-year-old daughter, a 12-year-old daughter and a six-year-old daughter but my 12-year-old daughter, after Christmas I got her the Mac, I don't think she’s watched television except to watch what she’s Tivoed. Everything comes through her internet.

Crave Online: Is the model to sell ads or subscription?

John Salley: Yeah, well, I’m with a company called StarCam which is a website we put together. Just now I was talking to everybody about my Twitter and my Facebook so I’m ramping that up, getting as much in as I can before I get on that plane and land and I have to cut it off. I just think people don’t want to wait until a certain time at night to get home and see a show. People want what they want right now. I think the internet, the fact that it’s connected to my cell phone, that’s what it is. Local news has a situation because when you can turn on CNN and get all the news in a half an hour, you don’t have to wait until six o’clock.

Crave Online: Do you miss the game?

John Salley: No.

Crave Online: Why not?

John Salley: I did it for 32 years. I’m my own boss now. Even though I love being on teams, I didn’t like being property of. Now I make a decision in the morning on what company I want to talk to, who I want to pitch, what show I want to do.

Crave Online: Are you following sports? Any picks?

John Salley: No. I love Kobe.

Crave Online: What’s your charity for I’m a Celebrity…?

John Salley: The Salley Foundation. My brother and I literally raise money for art, music, literature, science and sports. I had after-school. A lot of people don’t have after-school. I had after school programs that helped and teachers that helped. No idle time is what I say. Keep those kids out of idle time and in positive environments.

Crave Online: Did you have any interaction with aspiring contestant Rod Blagojevich?

John Salley: Yeah I said to him, “I love that you keep your chin up and I love that you attack it head on.” It is what it is. That guy is an American. That whole head between your tail scarecrow way and that whole “I’m gonna find Jesus over here” and “I’m gonna do that over here” to make me look good, he’s like, “Listen, I’m innocent, and I’m gonna prove I’m innocent. I’m not running away from anybody. I’ve still gotta feed my daughters. I’m not going away.’ He stood here and took every punch you guys threw at him, either countered or deflected.  He’s a really good politician.

Crave Online: What are your tips for staying healthy?

John Salley: A gallon of water a day. Drink water and try to stay away from refined sugar. I teach food and I’ve got JohnSalleyFoods.com and I make my own products. I didn’t like the way Vegan food tastes. I make cabbage. If I do cook anything it’s about how I cook the broth before I put the food in it as opposed to cooking the food in the broth. I make the broth.

Crave Online: From vegetables?

John Salley: Vegetables, bullion, and then I put the vegetables so they’re warm and pull them out

Crave Online: Do you ever have an indulgence food?

John Salley: I make the choice, you can do or do not. Everyone says, “Don’t you want to cheat a little bit?” Why would I want to cheat myself.

Crave Online: So what’s a treat for you?

John Salley: Just being healthy is the treat of life. The fact that I can run with my six year-old and not run out of breath. I am not gonna die from a heart attack. I’m not gonna die from a stroke.

Crave Online: What do you think of Obama’s bracket?

John Salley: Perfect. I was supposed to be invited to the White House after this, once the gym is finished. And I told him, “I’m not gonna not play because you’re the president.” I cannot wait to beat him, bat him down, fake him one way. He’s left handed and I love left handed jumpers.
