Nathan Explosion, William Murderface, Skwisgaar Swigelf, Toki Wartooth and Pickles, better known as Dethklock, are back! "Metalocalypse," the smash Adult Swim series chronicling the misadventures of the world's most popular metal band has returned to AS programming, airing Sundays at midnight.
The part-American, part-Scandinavian shredders reside in a mansion called Mordhaus, German for "murder house." From their home base, they command an unfathomably massive audience so loyal that they will literally do anything the songs tell them to, including but not limited to dying. A black-hooded army of employees stands constantly at the ready to commit the most hideous acts imaginable. Dethklok are recognized by the U.N. as having an independent police force.
Unfortunately, the band members have a tendency to cause bad luck and/or death to those around them, occasionally manifesting supernatural occurrences and natural disasters occur with their live performances. This, coupled with the extreme violence of their shows, tends to leave most, if not all, of the audience dead.
Anticipation for Dethklok's return skyrocketed last fall when a real-life version of the band - led by show creator Brendon Small - dominated a national tour, smashing eardrums on college campuses around the United States. The hugely successful Dethalbum followed, which features awesomely morbid songs written and performed by Small from the first season of "Metalocalypse." It debuted at #21 on the Billboard Top 200, and stands as the highest-charting death metal album of all time. This summer, Dethklok will embark on its second nationwide tour when Adult Swim Presents Metalocalype’s Dethklok kicks off on June 2, hitting 28 cities.
In addition to handling both lead vocalist and guitarist duties in the live version of Dethklok, Small aslo lends his voice to three of the lead characters on the show. He recently explained how he and "Metalocalypse" writing partner (and co-executive producer) Tommy Blacha came up with the Dethklok concept. “There’s kind of a comedy scene in L.A.,” he said. “You run into the same people all the time. And me and Tommy would always run into each other at parties and stuff. And we’d kind of end up sneaking into a corner and talking about metal and what’s going on. You know, he was the only one that would go to metal shows with me.”
With any luck, we'll see a return of Dr. Rockzo on the show this season, the spandex-loving rock 'n' roll clown who happened to coin last year's most bizarre catch phrase ("I do cocaaaaaiiiine!")
Can't wait!
