Perez Hilton allegedly attacked, Lady Gaga impresses at MuchMusic VMAs.
by Jennifer Cox
Jun 23, 2009

It was a night of drama and exciting live performances at the MuchMusic Video Music Awards Sunday night. Co-hosted by the Jonas Brothers, new acts like the edgy Shiloh and Rise Against took to the stage to perform their latest hits, while one of the final performances of the evening by Lady Gaga, which included an entourage of dancers as well as pyrotechnics like a sparking bra, was an impressive way to close out the show (she also took home the award for International Video of the Year - Artist).

In fact, there seemed to be more performances than hardware handed out at the VMAs, as Kelly Clarkson, Jonas Brothers, Nickelback, Classified, Alexisonfire, and Black Eyed Peas also rocked out on one of two outdoor stages.

Nickelback's "Gotta Be Somebody" took home the VMA for Video of the Year, and up-and-comer Danny Fernandes' "Private Dancer" won for Pop Video of the Year. The International Video of the Year - Group went to the Peas. Canadian awards included a prize for Billy Talent's "Rusted from the Rain" for International Video of the Year by a Canadian, while Simple Plan's "Save You" won for UR Fave: Canadian Video.

However, perhaps more dramatic than the actual awards themselves was what allegedly happened after the Video Music Awards. Apparently, at around 3 a.m. at a Much Music after party, blogger Perez Hilton, who was a presenter during the show, was attacked by the manager of the Black Eyed Peas'  (Perez Hilton punched By Black Eyed Peas Tour Manager). Both men took to the web following the incident to post their versions of the altercation, and it was a frenzy of buzz the next day as gossip sites and news outlets reported the dispute (even Ryan Seacrest took to Twitter to ask both parties to call in and set the record straight on his radio show).
