Comedian Nick Swardson is the first "Reno 911!" cast member to have popped into the spotlight since the show's unjustified and untimely cancellation by Comedy Central, and with his new special, "Seriously, Who Farted?" the artist formerly known as Terry (the rollerskating gay prostitute) has reminded us all why he was such a valuable asset to the show.
The special is precisely what we've come to expect from Swardson: a collection of ruminations about everything from top-hat-wearing monkeys to creative ways to kill yourself. Filmed in Austin, Texas, "Who Farted?" is filled with hilarious anecdotes and stories everyone can (sort of) relate to, including drunken bar fights, cocky drunk chicks and the quality of fast food while drunk.
The only complaint? Nick seems to be dumbing down for us. After killing nearly twenty minutes of fratty jokes about drinking, Swardson finally steps into less amateurish waters, working the audience like the pro he's become. And by "less amateurish," we're not exactly reaching for high-brow comedy; examining the finer points of suicide with a t-shirt gun and shitting one's own pants are all fair game.
With his "Reno" stint, Swardson warmed up to the crew at Happy Madison Productions and started writing and producing such projects as Grandma's Boy, Benchwarmers and co-producing I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry with Adam Sandler and Kevin James.
Tuesday, two days after the October 13th special airing, the "Nick Swardson: Seriously, Who Farted?" stand-up special will be released nationwide on DVD, CD and to download on iTunes. The DVD will feature bonus features such as "28 Drinks Later," a trailer spoof of "28 Days Later," and "Nick Swardson: Timeless Comedian," a retrospective of Nick's career throughout the decades, among others.
