The teaser trailer for Michael Bay's "Transformers: Dark of The Moon" has debuted on iTunes Trailers and rewritten the history books in the process.

In the two and a half minute clip, the famed Apolo 11 NASA mission that sent humanity to the Moon turns out to have been a front for its real mission: an investigation of a crashed Cybertronian ship that appears to hold a large, non-functioning robot (Shockwave?), who slowly reveals that he is no longer dormant.

Bay has previously confirmed that Shockwave will be the main villain in the third film, with Megatron, Starscream and Soundwave as the other prominent Decepticons in the movie. For the Autobots, Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Ratchet and Sideswipe will return, along with Silverbolt, The Wreckers and others.

Although Megan Fox is out of the film, most of the cast will be back, including Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro, Ramón Rodríguez, Kevin Dunn, Julie White and Shia LaBeouf in the leading role as Sam Witwicky. Former Victoria's Secret Model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley will also join the cast as Sam's girlfriend, Carly. Incidentally, Carly was also Sam (or Spike's) girlfriend in the original "Transformers" animated series.

"Transformers: Dark of The Moon" will hit theaters on July 1, 2011.
