Is Scarlett Johansson an alien predator in disguise?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress has agreed to star in the sci-fi drama "Under The Skin" as "an alien on earth, disguised as the perfect aesthetic form of a mesmerizing woman." The synopsis of the story states that the film will take place from her perspective as she uses her "voracious sexuality" to draw in her human prey.
However, Johansson's character will apparently have a change of heart during the course of her Earthbound experiences and may end up opposing her own people.
The screenplay was written by Jonathan Glazer ("Sexy Beast") and Walter Campbell from the original novel by Michel Faber. "Under The Skin" will also be produced by FilmNation and Film4.
“We’re so very excited to be working on this arrestingly original movie," said FilmNation CEO Glen Basner. "How could we pass up the chance to work with a visionary director like Jonathan, especially when combined with the intriguing notion of Scarlett Johansson as a ruthless alien seductress?”
Johansson is currently expected to begin filming this winter on Marvel Studios' "The Avengers," reprising her role as the Black Widow from "Iron Man 2." She has also starred in "The Spirit," "The Prestige," "The Black Dahlia," "The Island," "The Horse Whisperer" and "The Other Boleyn Girl." Johansson was also nominated for a BAFTA Award for her starring turn in "Lost In Translation."
"Under The Skin" is expected to begin production in Spring 2011.
