Universal Gets Re-Bourne

The fourth film, `The Bourne Legacy` finds a director in Tony Gilroy.

Just when you thought it was safe to watch a movie without requiring a Dramamine, Universal announced Monday via Deadline Hollywood Daily that the Bourne franchise will get a fourth installment, with writer-director Tony Gilroy behind the cameras. The film, which is currently titled The Bourne Legacy, will also be written by Gilroy, who scripted both of Paul Greengrass’ awesomely nausea-inducting installments, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum. Meanwhile, there is no word yet whether or not Matt Damon will return to the title role.

All kidding aside, the Bourne movies are among the best action movies of the last decade, not the least of which because they created a palpable emotional undercurrent that made the action seem that much more intense. At the same time, they also get our (unofficial) Favorite Moviegoing Experience Award for literally making a little girl throw up in a theater where we were watching The Bourne Supremacy for the first time. (We were however disappointed that Universal didn’t mention this as part of their marketing campaign.) And while we may have reached our own threshold for that shaky, handheld style that Greengrass popularized with this film’s predecessors, we’ll be first in line – complete with a seasickness patch – to see it on opening day.
