Variety’s Dave McNary reported Wednesday that Alexis Bledel has officially joined the cast of Violet and Daisy, a story about a pair of young assassins assigned to kill a man who turns out to be much different than they expect. The film, which is being directed by Geoffrey Fletcher from his own script, is set to start shooting next week in New York.
Fletcher previously won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for his work bringing the 2009 sleeper hit Precious to the screen. Bledel joins a cast that already includes actress Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones) and James Gandolfini (The Sopranos).
Following this spring’s Kick-Ass, Violet and Daisy marks the latest in a string of films that feature child or adolescent protagonists who engage in violent behavior. Personally, we think they should just cut out all of the maturation crap, go all out and make a movie about homicidal infants; they could call it Killer Babies. Given the resources and technical proficiency David Fincher brought to aging and de-aging Brad Pitt in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, such a project could even star A-list adults, shrunken or otherwise baby-fied by CGI to look like the baddest ass preemies you ever crossed paths with. Who wouldn’t want to see Bruce Willis as a cigar-smoking, wisecracking baby? (At least then he wouldn’t have to worry about pretending to have hair.)
