Now that Sly Stallone is busy with his Expendables -- and possible Expendables 2 -- the rest of the world is back to thinking of Judge Dredd and its latest film adaptation.
According to the latest from Variety, Olivia Thirlby is set to star opposite the new Judge Dredd, Karl Urban (Star Trek). Having previously graced theaters in Juno as the best friend of the title character, Thirlby will reportedly do more than just add “food baby” to the lexicon this time around, with her new role described as “a telepathic rookie who shadows Dredd.”
Based upon the British comic strip created in 1977 by Carlos Ezquerra, Pat Mills, and John Wagner, the new Judge Dredd film is written by Alex Garland (28 Days Laters) and boasts Pete Travis (Vantage Point) in the director’s chair. The comic and movies follow the tale of Judge Dredd, a representative of the law with the power and authority to act as judge, jury, and executioner. The mid-90s saw the first Judge Dredd film starring Sly Stallone in the title role with Diane Lane as his fellow judge and love interest.
