Thor and Captain America Go 3D

Plus, a look at Thor, Odin and Loki

Whose bright idea was it to announce Marvel's plans to release Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger in 3D alongside the photo of a one-eyed man? And how angry is Odin going to be when he finds out that is own lack of depth-perception will keep him from seeing a film that stars his own son?

The LA Times brings up the exclusive image from Thor, featuring Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Hopkins as Odin and Tom Hiddleston as Loki:

Also included in the article are Thor and Captain America directors' (Kenneth Branagh and Joe Johnston, respectively) thoughts on 3D. Not surprisingly, both directors do their own minor gushing about the technology and what it will mean for their own specific film.

"I've become somebody extremely excited about working with possibilities of doing it this way," said Branagh, admitting that he was skeptical of the format up front.

Johnston, meanwhile, seems to choose his words a bit more carefully, saying that it was a "nightmare" to experiment with a camera rig that would have allowed for Captain America to shoot in 3D and that he will, instead, go the post-conversion route.

Fully aware of the recent audience reaction to poorly-done 3D conversion (coughclashofthetitanscough), Marvel plans to bring fans back into the 3D fold with examples of their postconversion work at Comic-Con.
