In what may the strangest film pairing in quite awhile, James Cameron is set to direct a 3D concert film for The Black Eyed Peas, according to an interview Vibe conducted with the band's frontman will.i.am.
"Right now we are planning our 3D tour movie and James Cameron is directing it," said the singer, going on to explain that not only is the film a concert documentary, it also has a narrative element with a story created by Cameron himself.
The band is currently touring to promote its latest album, The E.N.D. (The Energy Never Dies), with concerts scheduled through August 23rd.
Cameron, coming off Avatar's tremendous success, has several rumored projects in the works, including an Avatar sequel and the long-in-development Battle Angel Alita. Though Cameron is no stranger to documentaries, A Black Eyed Peas concert film may have been the last project in the world anyone would have guessed at.
Production on the still-untiled film looks to be moving forward immediately and Vibe writes that the film should see release "early next year".
