Fresh off of directing a documentary on George Harrison, Martin Scorsese is getting back into the feature-length game with the star-studded cast of Hugo Cabret.
Formerly titled The Invention of Hugo Cabret, and based upon the novel of the same name, the film is about an orphan boy who embarks upon a magical journey after discovering a mysterious broken machine, an equally mysterious girl, and a strange old man.
While the main character is being played by relative unknown Asa Butterfield -- a 13-year-old British actor whose credits include The Wolfman and Nanny McPhee Returns -- the rest of the castlist boasts some pretty impressive names. Not only are Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass) and Ben Kingsley portraying the girl and old man, respectively, but other notables like Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes), Sacha
Baron Cohen (Bruno), Frances de la Tour (The Book of Eli), Richard Griffiths (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1), Christopher Lee (The Golden Compass), Ray Winstone (The Departed), and Helen McCrory (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince).
Aside from delving into the world of fantasy, Hugo Cabret is notable as Scorsese's first film to be shot in 3-D. That means none of the post-conversion nonsense that has had critics and audiences up-in-arms with movies like Clash of the Titans and Alice in Wonderland. Instead Hugo Cabret will be natively shot in 3-D and according to a recent press release, principal photography has already begun.
