Robert Rodriguez has been made an offer to direct Deadpool, say unconfirmed reports from The Playlist and Production Weekly.
The film, a spinoff of Fox's X-Men franchise would presumably star Ryan Reynolds, reprising his role as the equally alliterative Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool who first appeared on film in X-Men Origins: Wolverine last summer.
The film is suspected to depart from the tone of Wolverine, playing up the comedy angle prevalent in the Deadpool comics. There, the assassin for hire routinely breaks the fourth wall, speaking directly to the audience and earning him a nickname as "the merc with a mouth".
Rodriguez has previously adapated a comic book property with 2005's Sin City. He has also long been rumored to have an interest in adapting Mike Allred's Madman as well as a potentially-still-in-development big screen version of Red Sonja.
Though reports claim that the offer has been made, Rodriguez is not necessarily going to be interested in directing Deadpool as his will-he/won't-he list of projects already includes Sin City 2, The Jetsons, Barbarella and a live-action version of the Ralph Bakshi cartoon Fire and Ice.
