Super Freddy! (The Dream Child)
I remember being a kid trying to mimic the wicked art drawn by Mark in "The Dream Child." Since none of
Freddy and the Power Glove (Freddy's Dead)
If you were old enough to remember, the Power Glove was all the rage in the early nineties. Promising to revolutionize gaming forever, it was a glove containing the controls for the NES system at your wrist. Trapping game addict Spencer in his own dream world of pixilated glory, Freddy uses the power glove to wring the sap in a level of deadly traps. Spencer, being the experienced gamer, only avoids his level for so long and even survives his angry father who shows up twice his size attempting to maul him with a tennis racket. The over confident Spencer is then taken down by a pixilated Freddy who murders him at the end of the level. With that Freddy beats Spencer and topples his high score. Flawless victory. The best part of this death? The hilarious introduction by Johnny Depp who re-appears on television only to get whacked to death by Freddy with a frying pan. You have to love his sense of humor.
Freddy sucks (The Dream Master)
Being able to now enter the realities of the teens who have entered his world he manages to make poor bookworm Sheila pay dearly. The severely asthmatic young girl, while taking a test, happens across Freddy who appears out of nowhere and proceeds to suck face with her. Literally. Using her weakness to his advantage he plants his lips on her and sucks the living soul out of her sapping every bit of life force from her leaving her as little more than a withered shell of skin and bones suffering a rather horrific asthma attack in front of her crowded class. Truly it's one of the more disturbing deaths of the series and one of his sickest.
Freddy slashes Tina (A Nightmare on
Serving as a horrific preamble to the epic story of Freddy Krueger, one of his first victims Tina manages to barely avoid Freddy in her dream world as he taunts and stalks her. Sadly she falls victim to the dream master who proceeds to stab and slash at her making her suffer as her boyfriend sits and watches in horror as his girlfriend falls victim to the sadism of Krueger. One of the most shocking deaths in the series, Tina is the motivation for
A
Out of all of the films in the series, this death is the most well known because Craven simply outdid himself. We don't know what happened to Glen in his sleep, we don't know what Freddy did to him. All we know is that Glen drifted off for a moment and was sucked in to his bed only to re-emerged as a geyser of thick red blood that poured along the ceiling of his room. Knocking off everyone Nancy has ever loved, Freddy inflicted his worst punishment on her hapless boyfriend, and he paid dearly. This remains one of the most memorable deaths in Craven's masterpiece and it's one of the earliest memories I have watching a horror movie.
Demonic Freddy (Freddy vs. Jason)
Sure we've seen all of Freddy's incarnations, before. We've seen him as a man, as a creation turned demon in "New Nightmare," as a superhero, and as a gigantic worm, but we didn't really see the monster behind the scarred man. Being able to finally pull Jason in to his own domain once and for all, he keeps Voorhees at his mercy and victimizes him. Attempting to save him, heroine Lori goes to sleep and tries to help Jason. Angered at her interference, Freddy bursts from
Primetime Bitch! (Dream Warriors)
Jennifer is a television addict who knows well what is happening to the other patients. In a futile attempt to stay awake she tries to keep her attention to her loyal television smoking a wasted butt she discovers. She burns it on her skin thinking she's managed to avoid sleep and nods off for a split second. Oblivious she watches as Zsa Zsa Gabor is interviewed by Dick Cavett who turns in to Freddy and slashes her in cold blood. Jennifer goes to fix the television when it goes haywire, but it's too late as arms extend from its sides, and Freddy's face emerges from the top declaring Jennifer's big break in TV has come and he proudly welcomes the bitch to Prime Time by bashing her head in to a screen. Careful what you wish for, Jennifer.
Bon Appetit! (The Dream Child)
Greta is a privileged girl prone to going in to crash diets at the behest of her mother. In the middle of a dinner with her family she dozes off and is treated to a meal by chef Freddy who proceeds to feed her a smorgasbord of his own delicacies. Resistance is futile as Freddy, donned in a chef's hat, stuffs the girl to death with food ballooning her in to the massive blob she'd always feared of becoming. It's only one in an array of disgusting deaths that only Krueger could pull off without a hitch.
Skinning the Cat (A New Nightmare)
I can't have been the only one who felt sad when Julie died. The babysitter of young son Dylan, Julie is one of the only characters in "A New Nightmare" who knows exactly what Heather Langenkamp is going through and takes great pains in helping her in her crusade to stop the manifestation of Freddy Krueger. Trying to keep him awake a nurse slips by and injects him with a sedative. Julie clocks the devious nurse and manages to lock herself inside a room with Dylan desperately trying to keep him awake. Sadly the attempts are in vain as Freddy appears hanging from the ceiling and proceeds to mutilate Julie in front of young Dylan. It's one of the slicker but sadder deaths in the series.
The Maniacs rumble (Freddy vs. Jason)
"Freddy vs. Jason" is definitely a guilty pleasure that was destined to be a B movie from the get go. After a constant back and forth between Jason and Freddy, it was inevitable they would go head to head. Freddy manipulated Jason in to doing his bidding, Jason got too trigger happy, Freddy victimized Jason in his world, and then Freddy was pulled in to Jason's world. Little did anyone know that Freddy is just as deadly in the real world as he is in the dream world as he manages to get the living puss kicked out of him by an angry Jason as the hapless characters look on. They wreak horrific damage on one another all of which ends with Jason getting his eyes stabbed out by Freddy who is then impaled by his own clawed arm by Jason. It's a bad ass throwdown well worth the wait, regardless of what you think of the movie.
