Zombies, Jigsaw and Juno walk into a bar...

Is it really October already? It seemed like just yesterday we were trying to decide whether Megan Fox or the Transformers were better actors. Nevertheless, there's plenty of great films hitting the theaters this month, to pass the time while we wait for Halloween!

Capitalism: A Love Story

Release Date: October 2

Director: Michael Moore

Starring: Michael Moore, and the people who get rich making sure you stay poor

Rating: R

Capitalism: A Love Story arrives at a crucial time in American history, exploring the root causes of the global economic meltdown and attempting to take a comical look at the corporate and political conniving that culminated in what Moore described as "the biggest robbery in the history of this country" - the massive transfer of U.S. taxpayer money to private financial institutions.

CraveOnline's Call: Anyone not interested in this film either lives with their parents or is a complete imbecile. Hate to boil it down to the brass tacks, but each and every one of us are affected by this crisis, and much like Moore's Sicko film, this narrates precisely what's going wrong in our society.

Whip It

Release Date: October 2

Director: Drew Barrymore

Starring: Ellen Page, Juliette Lewis, Zoe Bell, Drew Barrymore, Kristen Wiig

Rating: PG-13

A surprisingly funny movie with a tiger's heart, Whip It centers on Bliss (Page), a girl swept by the tides of her mother's beauty-pageant whims - until she sees a flyer for an all-girl roller-derby and is swept into the world of skates and hip-checks where beauty is the last thing on anyone's mind. Consider it like A League Of Their Own on roller skates, without Madonna's fake Brooklyn accent.

CraveOnline's Call: A fantastic film. Take your little sister - she'll thank you in a few years.

Zombieland

Release Date: October 2

Director: Ruben Fleischer

Starring: Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone

Rating:

A mismatched pair of zombie-apocalypse survivors attempt to bond over their love of hunting and killing zombies. But when one of your group has a single-minded drive to find the last Twinkie on Earth, priorities tend to go askew.

CraveOnline's Call: How can you not think that we've been waiting for this movie since we were little kids?! Can't wait to catch this one.

Bronson

Release Date: October 9

Director: Nicolas Winding Refn

Starring: Tom Hardy, Matt King, Terry Stone, Hugh Ross

Rating: R

In 1974, a hot headed 19-year-old named Michael Peterson (Tom Hardy, in a blazing, transformative performance) decided he wanted to make a name for himself and so, with a homemade sawed-off shotgun and a head full of dreams he attempted to rob a post office. After making off with only £26.18, he was swiftly apprehended and originally sentenced to seven years in jail, Peterson has subsequently been behind bars for 34 years, 30 of which have been spent in solitary confinement. During that time, Michael Petersen, the boy, faded away and 'Charles Bronson,' his superstar alter ego, took center stage.

CraveOnline's Call: An absolutely fantastic film. Don't take your girlfriend, but definitely catch this ultra-violent spectacle.

Couples Retreat

Release Date: October 9

Director: Peter Billingsley

Starring: Vince Vaghn, Jon Favreau, Jason Bateman, Kristen Bell

Rating:

Four couples embark on a tropical-resort therapy retreat to work on their relationships, only to realize that their perfect getaway isn't so perfect after all; the invasive therapy sessions aren't optional. Hilarity apparently ensues.

CraveOnline's Call: Studios can't get away with Weekend at Bernie's anymore, so we've got this instead. Pass.

Law Abiding Citizen

Release Date: October 16

Director: F. Gary Gray

Starring: Gerard Butler, Jamie Foxx, Viola Davis, Regina Hall

Rating:

A successful assistant D.A. (Foxx) finds himself at the center of a vigilante plot hatched by a traumatized victim of the legal system (Butler). Butler's character is devastated to learn that, because of a plea bargain, one of his wife and daughter's murderers will be set free. Unwilling to let the uneven hand of justice make the last call, he unleashes a meticulous onslaught of revenge on the killers and those who made the deal.

CraveOnline's Call: The trailer was fantastic - cannot wait to catch this one, despite Butler's tendency to sound like he's chewing marbles when he uses an American accent.

Release Date: October 16

Director: Spike Jonze

Rating: PG

The classic children's book by Maurice Sendak's finally comes to life, with Spike Jonze at the helm after a lengthy production process that saw nearly endless delays to the project. Max's imagination transports him to a thriving forest bordering a vast sea, where he sets sail for the land of the Wild Things.

CraveOnline's Call: We'd love nothing more than if they'd stop mining our childhood memories for cheap thrills these days, but this looks well crafted. We're in.

After learning his friends and family are in danger, Astro Boy returns to his Metro City home to save everything he cares about and to understand what it takes to be a hero.

CraveOnline's Call: Looks like a fun cartoon flick, and we don't have to worry about being distracted by Nicolas Cage's odd hairline and complete inability to act - he's only providing a voice.

CraveOnline's Call: I want to stop watching these damned Saw movies, but the new levels of ridiculous terror-traps keep pulling me back in...

With a Napoleon Dynamite style and tone, they're shooting for the weirdo hilarity on this one.

CraveOnline's Call: We're not saying lightning's going to strike twice, but this looks pretty damned funny.
