The much-anticipated next installment has barely hit theaters, but MTV hunted down Terminator Salvation star Bryce Dallas Howard (Kate Connor) and director McG to discuss the future of the Terminator franchise. Those of you who haven't yet seen T4, or don't want to know any specifics on what the future may hold, should stop here.

So what's the next step? Surprisingly, McG seems to have it all worked out.
"That's to be explored in the prospective second and third picture," said the director who arguably cheesed up the potentially awesome Salvation. "We've arced out a story that includes that child and its fate and what it becomes in this world of man versus machine. It will also be the genesis of [Sam Worthington's character] Marcus, the coming of time travel and the fate of John Connor himself. We've marked out all those stories. And the child plays a critical role in it."
That's a hell of a jump on the T5 news train, I'd say. Presumably he's referring to John Connor's child, which is still in the womb when T4 ends. That's where Bryce Dallas Howard comes in.

"In the third film, it was suggested that their children together become important," Howard explains. "That Kate eventually becomes the leader of the resistance when John Connor dies and that their children together become influential as well. Obviously, that's in a future that we're all working to prevent, because we don't want John Connor to be killed -- but it is obviously implied that there are children involved."
Stay tuned for more, including our own interview with Oscar-winning effects supervisor (Pirates of the Caribbean, T4) and second director Charlie Gibson.
