First off here’s a trailer for the game so far:
Wasn’t that awesome? I’ll explain further than that of course but the sheer scope of it all is awesome. Here are five reasons why I’m really excited about this game.
Reason #1
The game will offer more than just a few character classes. Look for more than your standard Jedi and Sith here. The trailer certainly mentions a Bounty Hunter class, imagine travelling the galaxy hunting down criminals or Jedi or even Sith for that matter. Imagine all the ways you can manage your character that has nothing to do with force powers or anything else, it’s just you and your blasters against the galaxy. What if they let you play as a Stormtrooper straight out of Battlefront? The early KOTOR games were based on a D&D D20 system, so the character creation should be spot on.
Reason #2
Unlike most MMO’s this game will feature a real story (I’ll expand on the story later). Most MMO’s offer an endless amount of fighting, but when it comes to story even City of Heroes doesn’t have much of one. Where else can your choices effect the outcome of the game as you play it? If The Old Republic pulls this one off then you can bet that other game makers will be scrambling to follow suit.
Reason #3
Not only do we get an original story, but we will be able to play that story online with friends. Now I’m not 100% sure about the game coming to consoles I’ve just heard rumors that that will be the case. Having this game become available for the XBOX Live platform would be a master stroke by Bioware that has already seen success with Mass Effect. Can you imagine leading a team of Jedi on an important mission? Or hunting down said Jedi with you and you’re Sith allies? Just imagine the skirmishes and blaster fights you’ll get into.
Reason #4
I would have eventually gone to jail forever for killing someone for not making a sequel KOTOR II. Now I don’t have to hurt anyone or their families because they will at least include the fate of Revan to some degree. We know that Revan took off and never returned, but what about the Exile? I have to play to find out what’s going on in the story. That’s an aspect of MMO’s that has never been touched on. Most game sequels offer new bells and whistles and the story is an afterthought, well no more.
Reason #5
Dude, look at me… It’s Star Wars. That should be enough right there to whet your appetite. There are a lot of space bound sagas out there for you to choose from, but none as deep and involved as Star Wars. This game will open up a new chapter for new experiences like never before. You can now become a part of the Star Wars canon, which is ample reason to want this game all by itself.
