Ever since the F-22 Raptor jet made it's first public appearance in late 2005 the plane has sparked interest due to its unique looks and stealth capabilities. In development since the mid 1980's the F-22 Raptor did not become part of the Air Force until years of development were completed. In December of 2005 the $361 million fighter jet officially entered the service of the Air Force. Since then the fighter jet made it's debut appearance in Michael Bay's blockbuster, Transformers. The F-22 jet had previously appeared in other films, but CGI and models were used instead of the actual plane. Transformers marked the first time that this jet was allowed by the Air Force to be used in a feature film.

Next up for the Air Force's top fighter is an appearance in Jon Favereau's, Iron Man. In the film, Terrence Howard stars as Air Force Lt. Col. James Rhodes, a familiar name to fans of the comic book. Howard prepared for the role by visiting several Air Force bases, including Edwards AFB (Air Force Base) and Nellis AFB. Faverau used the F-22 and some Air force extras in the film to add some authenticity to the film.

Michael Bay went with all new looks for most of the transforming robots in his adaptation of the popular cartoon (and toy line) Transformers. In the film the Decepticon known as Starscream was significantly updated . Megatron's second in command now transformed in to the F-22 Raptor instead of the previous incarnation, an F-15 Eagle (the F-22's predecessor). The film also featured  several F-22's in a chase sequence over Downtown Los Angeles.
