3:10 to Yuma

CraveOnline: Funny Videos, Sexy Videos, Music Videos, Movie Trailers, and More!

Director: James Mangold
Cast: Russell Crowe, Christian Bale, Peter Fonda, Gretchen Mol, Dallas Roberts, Ben Foster, Vinessa Shaw
Genre: Western
Rating: N/A
Release Date: September 7th

Why: The cast is definitely a strong one, Russell Crowe and Christian Bale should both be convincing as Cowboys. The western genre has under gone a lot of changes in the last twenty years with most westerns have a more ‘period piece’ overtone utilizing stunning visuals and set designs. Add that this is a remake, and we might be in line for a great reimagining of a classic film.

Why Not: With the ‘period piece’ label also comes the chance that the film might be long, drawn out and boring. Plus, there’s a good chance that having Russell Crowe’s name on the marquee doing more harm than good for the film.

The Brothers Solomon

CraveOnline: Funny Videos, Sexy Videos, Music Videos, Movie Trailers, and More!

Director: Bob Odenkirk
Cast: Will Arnett, Will Forte, Chi McBride, Malin Akerman, Kristin Wiig
Genre: Comedy
Rating: R
Release Date: September 7th

Why: Will Arnett and Will Forte are both versatile and genuinely funny. Bob Odenkirk has a tremendous pedigree for comedy, and has made some truly hilarious movies and television series’. This seems like a situational comedy with plenty of sight gags and physical comedy.

Why Not: While Arnett and Forte are certainly funny, neither is exactly a leading man that movie goers are going to clamor into theatres to go see. Odenkirk will guarantee a certain amount of ticket sales but a lot of movie goers might wait a week to see what the reviews say before plunking down almost 15 bucks for an evening show. Odds are this movie will be so-so in the box office and then absolutely kill in DVD sales.
Shoot em’ Up

CraveOnline: Funny Videos, Sexy Videos, Music Videos, Movie Trailers, and More!

Director: Michael Davis
Cast:
Clive Owen, Monica Bellucci, Paul Giamatti, Greg Bryk, Chris Jericho, Stephen McHattie, Jane McLean, Daniel Pilon
Genre:
Action-Thriller
Rating:
R
Release Date:
September 7th

Why: Please please please, let this movie be about Clive Owen shooting people! Ever since Sin City, I’ve been a Clive Owen fan, I’d shell out 15 bucks to watch this guy shoot the Easter Bunny and Santa in a drive by. The premise of the movie is a little curious, almost as if the movie has more to it than the title suggests (how original). Some guy in Hollywood probably thought that was a novel idea, but if this movie fails, he should know that the really lame title probably had a lot to do with it.

Why Not: This might be another case of ‘when bad stories happen to good people’ based on the non sequitur that seems to occur between the movie’s title and its premise. Titles are there to create expectation, and what do you expect from a movie called ‘Shoot em’ Up’? Right, so what the hell is this I’m hearing about a newborn baby?
The Hunting Party

CraveOnline: Funny Videos, Sexy Videos, Music Videos, Movie Trailers, and More!

Director: Richard Shepard
Cast: Richard Gere, Terrence Howard, Jesse Eisenberg, James Brolin, Diane Kruger, Joy Bryant
Genre: Action/Adventure
Rating: N/A
Release Date: September 21st

Why: Based on a true story, this film will draw out the usual suspects for movies like this. The cast looks really good with Richard Gere playing alongside Terrance Howard. The setting should make for great images and cinematography, and the story in and of itself is very compelling.

Why Not: This might one of those movies that no one has seen but everyone keeps hearing that they should, which would be unfortunate because it looks good. I’m a little concerned about how the action elements will work, with these characters being journalists not soldiers. Hopefully this movie will be good.
Across the Universe

CraveOnline: Funny Videos, Sexy Videos, Music Videos, Movie Trailers, and More!

Director: Julie Taymor
Cast: Evan Rachel Wood, Jim Sturgess, Max Carrigan, Joe Anderson, Dana Fuchs, Martin Luther, T.V. Carpio
Genre: Musical
Rating: pg-13
Release Date: September 14th

Why:The Beatles man, the Beatles. Not a movie about the band in and of itself, instead this is a well crafted love story that takes the viewer throughout the turbulent times of the 1960’s. Director Julie Taymor seems right at home in the musical medium and should greatly benefit this film with her expertise. With the success of movie like Mulan Rouge and others, this movie should be a monster in the box office.

Why Not: Or it will not be, it all depends on how many Beatles fans feel the need to camp out on the side walk for a few days in order to see a movie that some other guy can just walk right in and see two days later with no hassle, and get this, it will be the same movie! Men should take dates, musical lovers should be in attendance, and then there are the Beatles fans. We’ll see.
Dragon Wars

CraveOnline: Funny Videos, Sexy Videos, Music Videos, Movie Trailers, and More!

Director: Hyung-rae Shim
Cast: Jason Behr, Amanda Brooks, Robert Forster, Aimee Garcia, Craig Robinson
Genre: Action/Fantasy
Rating: pg-13
Release Date: September 14th

Why: This is a men’s site right? Then can I just say giant f*****g dueling dragons destroying Los Angeles in a titanic battle?

Why Not: The film may not get the exposure it needs to be the box office hit that it has the potential to be. Plus not every movie that features dragons is a sure fire success. Ever see Reign of Fire? If you’re lucky, you didn’t.
Mr. Woodcock

CraveOnline: Funny Videos, Sexy Videos, Music Videos, Movie Trailers, and More!

Director: Craig Gillespie

Cast: Seann William Scott, Billy Bob Thornton, Susan Sarandon, Ethan Suplee, Amy Poehler, Emily Wagner, Evan Helmuth
Genre: Comedy
Rating: pg-13
Release Date: September 14th

Why: The plot looks pretty solid, with Thornton and Scott playing characters well within their ranges as actors this movie looks good. Susan Sarandon is also very funny and fits the cast well. Out of all the comedies out in September, this looks to be the funniest.

Why Not: Thornton may have made this film before, unless there is a twist that we’re not aware of. Audiences just might be tired of Thornton playing the same character. The movie will live and die based on how the audience receives the physical elements of the comedy. With this cast, being witty shouldn’t be a problem.
Good Luck Chuck

CraveOnline: Funny Videos, Sexy Videos, Music Videos, Movie Trailers, and More!

Director: Mark Helfrich
Cast: Dane Cook, Jessica Alba, Dan Fogler
Genre: comedy
Rating: N/A
Release Date: September 21st.

Why:Jessica Alba fans will hit the theatres, as well as the fifteen or so college students who don’t mind going to see Dane Cook on a school night. The plot is pretty solid, and has a lot of room for some great material.

Why Not: Dane Cook’s cool and all, but I’m not rushing to the theater because he’s in it. Hate to say it, but they could have stuck just about any funny man in the role and the results would be the same or better (guess that earns me a super finger).
Resident Evil: Extinction

CraveOnline: Funny Videos, Sexy Videos, Music Videos, Movie Trailers, and More!

Director: Russell Mulcahy
Cast: Milla Jovovich, Oded Fehr, Mike Epps, Ali Larter, Chris Egan, Ashanti, Iain Glen, Sienna Guillory, Jason O’Mara
Genre: Action/Horror
Rating: R
Release Date: September 21st.

Why:Milla Jovovich is still doing the movies. The fact that she’s stuck around for so many sequels means one of two things, the filmmakers lawyers are better than hers, or this movie franchise still has life. It’s simple; if you liked the previous movies then you should go see this one.

Why Not: You either love or hate this franchise, there’s not a whole lot in between. I would suggest hitting the video store and checking out the earlier films before going to see this one.
The Kingdom

CraveOnline: Funny Videos, Sexy Videos, Music Videos, Movie Trailers, and More!

Director: Peter Berg
Cast: Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Chris Cooper, Jason Bateman, Jeremy Piven
Genre: Thriller
Rating: R
Release Date: September 28th

Why:Like most movies on this list, the cast is the first thing that you should look to. Chris Cooper and Jamie Foxx are great, and Jennifer Garner brings fresh star power to the table. The story is really interesting, am I’m curious to see how the film is shot.

Why Not: Justin Bateman? Really? Is he gonna be shooting at people? That sounds a little suspect. I’m a fan of his, but I just don’t see that guy diving across the floor firing off rounds while bullets wiz by. On the cast list he sticks out like a sore thumb, and he might also do the same in this movie.

Check back in October for another look at what the multiplex has to offer.
