Quentin Tarantino’s Next Film: A Western

Oscar-winning filmmaker says the screenplay ‘just flowed out’ of him. Wow, we knew paper was high in fiber but this is ridiculous!

Quentin Tarantino's Next Film: A Western

Nobody ever accused Quentin Tarantino of being the most prolific director in Hollywood. The man has talked up more projects than he’s ever likely to produce, be it the Kill Bill sequel, the Vega Brothers spin-off or that spaghetti western which… Oh wait, it looks like that one’s actually happening. Finally.

Yes, Deadline is reporting that at an Oscar party this weekend, Tarantino was very vocal about the new, as-yet-untitled project. Tarantino stated that he had finished the screenplay, and that compared to earlier, long-gestating scripts for Kill Bill and Inglourious Basterds it ‘just flowed out’ of him. Ew.

Or maybe it didn’t: Back in 2007, Tarantino told The Daily Telegraph of his plans to make a ‘Southern’ that would combine Spaghetti Western tropes with a story about slavery. "I want to explore something that really hasn’t been done," Tarantino said, "I want to do movies that deal with America’s horrible past with slavery and stuff but do them like spaghetti westerns, not like big issue movies. I want to do them like they’re genre films, but they deal with everything America has never dealt with because it’s ashamed of it, and other countries don’t really deal with because they don’t feel they have the right to. [...] But I can deal with it all right, and I’m the guy to do it." Humble guy, that Tarantino, but it sounds cool anyway.

Anyway, apparently the script is due in two months – so he’s ahead of the game – and The Weinstein Company is looking to move into rapidly into production after that. We’re looking forward to it. Heck, we even liked Death Proof.

Crave Online will return with more Quentin Tarantino news as he makes more and more promises.
