Evangeline Lilly hasn't been terribly active in TV or film since finishing her run on the popular series Lost, but now she's coming back in a big way, albeit a little role, in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit. Peter Jackson revealed on his Facebook page that Lilly has joined the production as a new character, Tauriel, a Woodland elf. Jackson teases that her name means 'daughter of Mirkwood,' but refused to elaborate further. Lilly once dated a hobbit, namely Dominic 'Merry' Monaghan, he co-star on Lost. Although they are no longer together, it appears that she caught the Tolkien bug.
It wasn't the only bit of casting news he revealed in the announcement. Jackson also revealed that "Barry Humphries will be portraying the Goblin King, in much the way Andy Serkis created Gollum." Motion capture then. Got it. Humphries's real name might not be a household name, but his alter ego Dame Edna Everage is one of the most prominent cross-dressing characters of the last 100 years. Outside of a dress, Humphries is perhaps best known as Bruce the Shark from Pixar's classic Finding Nemo.
Crave Online will be back with more Hobbit casting news, for the next several years apparently.
