‘Police Academy’ Remake is No Joke

In related news, worldwide belief in a higher power hits a new all-time low.

If you actually noticed that the above image is from Police Academy 4, and not the original Police Academy, then the following news story is all your fault: New Line Cinema has announced that they will remake Police Academy, the impossibly popular series of comedy movies headlined, for the most part, by Steve Guttenberg. The series spanned seven feature films from 1984 to 1994, an animated kids series and a live-action hour-long series that somehow lasted for 26 episodes. The early films were, to their credit, kinda funny. The later films, well…

Yes, "The Cold War may be over, but give them time. They just got here."

Deadline reports that Police Academy remake will be helmed by Scott Zabielski, a first-time feature director who cut his teeth on the Comedy Central series Tosh.0, or as everyone we know calls it, "YouTube: The Series." He might actually know what he's doing though. Deadline also reports that Zabielski personally went through his own Police Academy training and now works as a reserve officer in West Hollywood. At last, a Police Academy movie that cares about accuracy. It'll be like The Wire but with poopie jokes.

CraveOnline will be back with more Police Academy remake news after we pine wistfully for young Kim Cattrall.
