How many people can claim to have actually watched an entire film series, non stop, in a row? Doing so, particularly with a crowd, can vastly alter your judgment on the merits of each film.
After Bondathon and Trekathon, we decided to take on the Batman films. I've been a Batman fan ever since landing my first production job as a Production Assistant on Batman Begins, so this was another series dear to my heartm. We decided to include all modern-era theatrically released feature films starring Batman. This meant that the snooze-fest 1940's serials and the straight-to-video animated films weren't included, but Mask of the Phantasm made the cut owing to its theatrical release in 1993. We ended up with our best crowd yet, with 30 people showing up.
The 8 films that we ended up with represented the wildest range of styles and tones of any series, going from the wacky Adam West feature to the dark-as-night Nolan films. Not surprisingly, our 0 to 10 scores ended up being all over the map as well (one even smashed our record for lowest-rated movie ever, guess which one!). What was surprising was how badly some films have aged, and how well others have held up over time. Check out the timelapse and the rankings in the video below-
