We didn't see Francis Lawrence's post-apocalyptic adaptation of Richard Matheson's classic I Am Legend because, well, it looked to be a blight on the good name of the original story. But everyone else sure saw it. The film grossed over $585 million interenationally, thanks no doubt to the presence of reliable superstar Will Smith, and for years now we've heard rumors of a prequel, since... Well, since the ending of the story doesn't really leave Will Smith in a good position for further adventures.
Warner Bros. announced today, however, that the follow-up will be a reality. At least, if they have their way. They've hired Arash Amel to write the screenplay for I Will Continue to Be Legend (our title), and are curiously not announcing that it's a prequel.
A sequel then? Did Will Smith have a twin? Deadline had the original story, and stated that Smith is waiting on the script to determine his involvement.
Amel has two features currently in the pipeline: The Expatriate, a CIA conspiracy thriller starring Aaron Eckhart and Olga Kurylenko, and Grace of Monaco, a biography of Hollywood princess Grace Kelly after she became the real-life princess of Monaco, which is still in development. The last I Am Legend was scribed by Thor co-writer Mark Protosevich and frequent Batman and Robin scapegoat Akiva Goldsman.
CraveOnline will be back with more I Will Continue to Be Legend news after we wind our watches.
