With all this hubbub about The Avengers, it's been a little easy to forget that Marvel Studios has plans well beyond this summer's epic team up. Like Iron Man 3, scheduled for release in 2013, which finds Kiss Kiss Bang Bang director Shane Black (who also wrote the original Lethal Weapon) directing a film he describes as more Tom Clancy-ish than the previous, beat 'em up Iron Man 2. Today we finally have some news on that release, in the form of an announcement from Feature Film Casting (via Total Film), revealing that Scarlett Johansson, whose character The Black Widow made her feature film debut in the previous sequel, will be returning for the follow up, along with Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle.
So yes, apparently she doesn't die in The Avengers. We all pretty much figured that out.
But will this be a glorified cameo, or will Black Widow's ample spy skills play a more prominent role in the more espionage-laden Iron Man 3? Could Marvel be pushing the love story between Johansson's character and Tony Stark, which turned out to be a major point in Marvel's Ultimates comic book series? It's way too early to speculate. So we encourage you to do it for us.
CraveOnline will return with more Iron Man 3 news after we finally get some news on the damned villains. Come on, Ghost…!
