When she isn't getting in bikini-shape in John Stockwell's In the Blood, Gina Carano is busy preparing her next step towards total Hollywood domination. The Haywire star is in talks to join the cast of Fast 6, the sequel to 2011's blockbuster Fast Five and, obviously, the sixth film in the Fast and the Furious franchise, which will film before In the Blood goes into production.
Hollywood Reporter writes that Carano will appear alongside Dwayne Johnson's Agent Luke Hobbs as a member of his team. Together, they'll track down Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and the rest of the increasingly large cast of the Fast and the Furious franchise. It would seem that the Jason Statham thing never panned out, but we like the fact that the series is turning organically into a new form of Expendables. Action luminaries may be flocking to Stallone's franchise, but the younger generation are finding a home in Justin Lin's car racing heist movies.
We couldn't be happier, obviously. Carano was exceptional in Haywire, a film admittedly tailored to her talents. She's a charismatic presence and sells an action scene better than actors with more experience in the genre, but we've still only seen her in one film. Will she be able to parlay Haywire's critical success into a lasting career on the silver screen, or will she find herself relegated, like many of a fighter-turned-actor before her, to the straight-to-video scene before too long?
At least she's getting the chance to prove herself. Man, if you told us a few years ago that Fast 6 would be one of our most anticipated movies, we'd have punched you stupid. But we'd have apologized eventually, because this sounds like an awesome prospect.
CraveOnline will return with more Fast 6 news after shift our gears.
