Johnny Depp Will Star in Wes Anderson’s ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’

Depp will return to his indie roots with Anderson's follow-up to the acclaimed Moonrise Kingdom.

Do you remember the long decade before Johnny Depp was the most bankable star in Hollywood? The pre-Pirates of the Caribbean days, when appearing in a $250 million western was unthinkable for the star of Ed Wood and Arizona Dream? Apparently Johnny Depp is nostalgic for them too. He's signed on to star in The Grand Budapest Hotel, the next film from acclaimed Moonrise Kingdom director Wes Anderson.

Details on the plot seem nonexistant at the moment, but Deadline reports that Depp is the first talent to officially come aboard the Oscar-nominated filmmaker's project, whose title sounds distractingly like this year's indie success The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Twitch reports that Anderson has also approached such varied talent as Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, Jude Law, Jeff Goldblum, Edward Norton, Willem Dafoe and Angela Lansbury, most of whom are alumni of his previous films.

It's hard to imagine any film that teams Johnny Depp with Wes Anderson not being some sort of instant classic, but as always, we encourage you to wait and see. Fortunately, you probably won't have to wait too long: Depp has several projects in the pipeline, but it seems that The Grand Budapest Hotel may be ready to put in front of cameras before The Thin Man or The Night Stalker wrap up pre-production.

CraveOnline will be back with more The Grand Budapest Hotel news if we ever make it out of bat country.
