Walt Disney and Marvel Studios are staking a claim: May 1, 2015 belongs to The Avengers 2, to be written and directed by Joss Whedon. What does this mean for you, the audience?
Uh… it means The Avengers 2 will come out on May 1, 2015. We don't quite see what the big deal is. We knew it was happening, it was bound to come out eventually, and now we know the exact day. But seeing as it's still mid-August 2012, you might want to untwist your knickers. We still have at least four Marvel Studios movies to enjoy in the interim. Maybe five, if Edgar Wright's Ant-Man gets off the ground in time. (Or, since it's Ant-Man, gets down to the ground, but we digress.)
Besides the date, the only real news – or more specifically, lack thereof – is the film's title, which may not be The Avengers 2 at all. Disney's extremely brief press release actually refers to the film as "Untitled Marvel's Avengers Sequel." Too early to name it? Perhaps. Or perhaps they're considering giving it one of those nifty subtitles, like Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Thor: The Dark World.
And maybe, just maybe (since we're entering the realm of pure speculation here), calling it something like The Avengers: The Infinity Gauntlet would be giving too much away, three years too early.
CraveOnline will be back with more Avengers 2 news after we find out what God really dresses like.
