It's finally official, it's finally confirmed: Edgar Wright's Ant-Man, one of the first movies announced as "in development" by Marvel Studios in the first place, finally has a release date of November 6, 2015. Previous rumors had dated the film in 2014, but folks, that's why we call them rumors. The announcement came straight from Disney, and makes Ant-Man the first Marvel Studios film scheduled after The Avengers 2, making the hero's inclusion in Joss Whedon's sequel seem highly unlikely, except perhaps in cameo form.
Also mentioned in the studio brief was the news, highly predictable news but news all the same, that both Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World would be released in 3D. At this point, we'd be shocked if any of the upcoming Marvel Studios superhero films aren't released in 3D, but when something's official it's official, damn it.
As it stands, Marvel's theatrical release schedule looks a little something like this. You might want to start standing in line right now.
Iron Man 3 – May 5, 2013
Thor: The Dark World – November 8, 2013
Captain America: The Winter Soldier – April 4, 2014
Guardians of the Galaxy – August 1, 2014
The Avengers 2 – May 1, 2015
Ant-Man – November 6, 2015
Upwards and onwards to greater glory, indeed.
