The killer hillbilly subgenre seems to have taken a special place in the horror movie firmament, hasn't it? Going back at least as far as 1964's 2,000 Maniacs, these films foreground the leftover anxiety between the North and South in America, but more particularly the contrast between urban and rural living. With little variation, these films – from Deliverance to Texas Chain Saw Massacre – feature city dwellers traveling to the wooded areas, disturbing or simply invading the territory of the local populace, and meeting an unpleasant ends as a result. New Yorkers think they're so cool, but what's all their hoity-toity "civilization" good for if they can't survive in the wild and defend themselves from homicidal maniacs?
The Wrong Turn series has repeatedly taken the killer hillbilly subgenre to absolute extremes, so it's particularly nice of them to submit this detailed infographic of how to survive one of their own movies. The latest installment, Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines, hits DVD and Blu-ray on October 23, 2012, but you can bone up on your survival skills with this handy Hillbilly Survival Guide.
