Who Will Play Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2?

Brady Corbet, Alden Ehrenrecih and Chronicle's Dane DeHaan are frontrunners for the coveted role.

Sony isn't wasting any time putting The Amazing Spider-Man 2 together. They can't afford to, what with their May 2, 2014 release date just a year-and-a-half away. The cast is coming together quickly. Mac Webb recently confirmed that The Descendents co-star Shailene Woodley would be joining the cast as Mary Jane Watson, a part previously played by Kirsten Dunst in the 2000's. Jamie Foxx is heavily rumored and, if Marc Webb's teasing is any indication, all but confirmed as the supervillain Electro. But what of the sequel's other new (read: old) character? Who will play Harry Osborn, Peter Parker's best friend and the son of the supervillain known as The Green Goblin?

Reports came in late yesterday that young actors are already testing for the part, which was originally described as a muscular character but is now being described as "dark and edgy," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Amongst the talent currently being considered is Brady Corbet, the 24-year-old co-star of Melancholia and Funny Games, Alden Ehrenreich, the 22-year-old co-star of Chan-wook Park's upcoming horror film Stoker, and Dane DeHaan, the 25-year-old actor who turned heads earlier this year as the dangerously unstable telekinetic star of the superhero thriller Chronicle.

Assuming these reports are accurate, it may be too soon to assume that any of these actors are on the final short list to get the part, as the character is, again according to The Hollywood Reporter, still "evolving." We're only passingly familiar with Corbet and Ehrenreich, but having seen his performance in Chronicle, we thoroughly support DeHaan nabbing the role. He's got the tortured son of a terrible father thing down cold, although proving as much in Chronicle might actually hurt his chances, since the part could be considered too close to his recent breakout role.

Of course, if Harry Osborn is in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it seems plausible that there may be room for his father Norman Osborn as well, unless the head of OsCorp, the corporation responsible for creating both Spider-Man and The Lizard in last summer's The Amazing Spider-Man, is on a business trip throughout the entire second film or something.
