Jackie Chan Signs Up for The Expendables 3

The martial arts star also says that Chris Tucker is looking at a script that may just turn into Rush Hour 4.

Sylvester Stallone has wanted to work with Jackie Chan for a really, really long time. He originally asked the martial arts superstar to play the villain "Simon Phoenix" in his 1993 sci-fi actioner Demolition Man, but Chan turned the role down, not wanting to damage his carefully sculpted heroic image by playing a bad guy. But now Stallone has once again offered a role to the Legend of the Drunken Master star, and this time he's saying "Yes." On one condition, that is.

"Sly had invited me to be in Expendables 2," Chan told a Kuala Lumpur press conference for his latest film, Chinese Zodiac [via Cinema Online]. but I was too busy filming CZ12 [Chinese Zodiac] and couldn't make a commitment to the film. But he did extend his invitation to the third movie, which I agreed on the condition that I will be appearing as more than just a minor role with a few scenes."

We're with Jackie Chan on this one. The Expendables movies are a lot of fun, but while it's certainly cool to see action legends like Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis on screen together, we'd rather see them carry the whole movie together than simply show up for extended cameos in a film largely dominated by comparatively minor – though still badass – action stars like Terry Crews and Randy Couture.

Chan also gave an update on the state of Rush Hour 4, which producer Arthur Sarkisian told CraveOnline was coming together back in July. It turns out that a buddy action film called Skip Tracer could very well transform into Rush Hour 4, if Chris Tucker signs off on it. "The script is currently viewed by Chris Tucker. Personally, I feel that if he were to pick it up, it would be better if we turned it into Rush Hour 4 but I do think that three movies for the franchise is a perfect ending. It would be better to start a new buddy movie with someone new."

Chinese Zodiac, the third film in Jackie Chan's popular Armour of God franchise, opens in China on December 20, 2012. As of this writing, no release date has been set in the United States.
