Let's be clear about this…
RUMOR…! RUMOR…! RUMOR…!
But if true, this could be a major development about Warner Bros.' upcoming Justice League movie in 2015. Unlike Marvel Studios, which already had a full slate of superheroes from which to build their Avengers cast, Warner Bros. is basically starting with their superhero team-up movie and working backwards to their solo adventures, with only Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, (possibly) Green Lantern and (probably not) Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy acting as a lead-in to their own all-star blockbuster. Although it stands to reason that Warner Bros. would want to fill their Justice League with DC Comics A-listers, it's not a sure thing until they officially announce it. But Cosmic Book News says they have an exclusive look at the line-up of heroes and villains for the film, complete with character backgrounds.
The full list is below, but the big news – again, if this is true – would be that not only is Green Lantern in Justice League, but that would be the same Green Lantern that appeared in the ill-fated Martin Campbell movie from 2011. Given the poor critical and box office reception for Green Lantern, it seems up-in-the-air whether Warner Bros. would decide to pretend that it never happened or to keep Ryan Reynolds (or another actor in the same role, a la Mark Ruffalo taking over as The Hulk) in their big crossover event. We're also happy that, in this report at any rate, Aquaman – a character with an unjustly maligned pop culture history, based almost entirely on his poor portrayal in "Superfriends," a cartoon series that we remind you is now 40 years old – has a major role in the picture, presumably setting him up as a serious contender for a solo series.
So again, take this character sheet with an enormous mountain of salt, but if true, this could be the roster for Warner Bros.' Justice League movie. See anything you like? Let us know in the comments below.
Superman is essentially the same character from Man of Steel, and Zack Snyder is consulting regarding the writing of the character.
Batman: The strategist of the group. Batman doesn't really want to be involved with these super powered beings he considers too powerful. Easily the most complexly written.
Wonder Woman: She has only been in man's world a few short months. The Wonder Woman script Michael Goldenberg is developing will be set before the Justice League movie.
Green Lantern: Will be Ryan Reynold's character from the Green Lantern movie, but will be freshly written with a more serious tone.
Flash: The most popular hero in civilian eyes who loves media attention, but when called upon is very serious.
Martian Manhunter: Alien who has lived on Earth in secret for over a hundred years who has knowledge of Darkseid and his reign.
Aquaman: Will be the King of Atlantis who has a key role in the film.
There will also be a heavy military presence in the film which in future rewrites could include characters featured in Man of Steel or even Amanda Waller (Angela Bassett) of which neither are included in the first draft.
Alfred Pennyworth is in the film in a minor appearance.
Lois Lane is also in the film in a cameo.
Darkseid's Elite will be featured who go up against the Justice League early on in the film.
