The Academy Awards are getting ready to present the Best Picture of 2012 in just a few hours, but at least now we know what lies on the complete opposite end of the spectrum. The Golden Raspberry Awards (aka "The Razzies") have announced the awards for the worst movies of 2012, and it comes as absolutely no surprise that everyone's favorite whipping-franchise, The Twilight Saga, swept most of the categories. As usual with the Razzies – and the Oscars, come to think of it – we disagree with the final decision. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 wasn't anywhere close to the worst film of the year. In fact, it's actually one of only two, at most, films in the Twilight franchise we actually gave a rather positive review.
But, and here's the thing we never actually noticed until today, somehow the much-reviled Twilight movies, even the lower quality entries, had never won "Worst Picture" at the Razzies before. We're actually rather shocked that it slipped under their radar for so long. This series of wins is tantamount to The Return of the King winning Best Picture after two years of snubbing the rest of the Lord of the Rings saga: it's a representative win for the whole franchise, not so much singling out one particular quality (or lack of quality production), but a big, sweeping gesture that is meant to include all films in the series. And that… Yeah, we can sort of get behind that. Sure.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 took home the Razzies for Worst Picture, Worst Director (Bill Condon), Worst Actress (Kristen Stewart, also for Snow White and the Huntsman), Worst Supporting Actor (Taylor Lautner), Worst Ensemble Cast, Worst Screen Couple (MacKenzie Foy and Taylor Lautner), and Worst Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel. The Razzies also reserved a few categores for some of their other pet peeves, including Adam Sandler, who won "Worst Actor" for the second year in a row for That's My Boy (and third time total, making him the second most dishonored actor in the history of the awards ceremony, behind Sylvester Stallone), That's My Boy for Worst Screenplay, and a singer trying to break into acting, namely Rihanna for Battleship, another movie we kind of liked here at CraveOnline.
