SPOILER WARNING: This NSFW video contains key plot points from Franck Khalfoun's Maniac.
Elijah Wood is a Maniac in director Franck Khalfoun's new remake of William Lustig's ultraviolent serial killer classic from 1980. The new film stars the Lord of the Rings actor as a very troubled young man with a thing for women's hair… and their scalps. To create the elaborate and horrifically violent scalping effects, Franck Khalfoun (P2) enlisted Special MakeUp Effects Artist Mike McCarty (Sin City), and we've got a CraveOnline Exclusive look at those special practical effects, featuring interviews with Wood, Khalfoun, McCarty and screenwriter Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes).
It's grotesque and extremely impressive stuff. We hope you enjoy it… and that you can hang on to your lunch.
Maniac has not been rated by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), and is now available in select theaters and Video On Demand (VOD). If that's not enough Maniac for you, William Lustig's controversial original classic is currently available on Blu-ray from Blue Underground.
