Talking to the Jackass guys is kind of like interviewing an athlete after the big game. There’s not much to be said, but you still want to get his reaction to the big plays. Johnny Knoxville led the gang, wearing a sailor cap to the Beer Garden set up in a San Diego parking lot for Comic Con. We got an all important post-game debrief to the footage of Jackass 3-D they screened.
Crave Online: How are you doing this Comic-Con?
Johnny Knoxville: I am doing great.
Crave Online: Was this whole thing your idea as part of the Jackass festivities?
Johnny Knoxville: I don't know if I have that kind of mind. I stick to pee pee and poo poo and throw up.
Crave Online: How did you manage to top the stunts you did in Jackass #2?
Johnny Knoxville: Well, I think 3-D brings it to a whole other level. It makes everything real personal, right in your face, all over your face.
Crave Online: Do you conceive of stunts differently for the added dimension?
Johnny Knoxville: No, I just always try to write bits that are funny in 2-D. Then if we can tweak it a little to add some 3-D thing to it, we do. Other people may have written ideas for 3-D but I want it to be funny in 2-D first.
Crave Online: That’s important too because that version has to work.
Johnny Knoxville: Yeah, because if some people see it in 2-D, and you’re counting on the 3-D, then they’re kind of f***ed.
Crave Online: How is Steve-O in 3-D?
Johnny Knoxville: Steve-O’s awesome, man. He celebrated his second year of sobriety on the set and he goes as big as anyone in this movie, but he hasn’t lost any of his spirit. I’m really proud of Steve-O.
Crave Online: What about Danger Ehren?
Johnny Knoxville: Am I proud of Danger? Tough question. No, Danger did great, man. Danger Ehren did great.
Crave Online: The bulls were big recurring theme in #2. Do you have the same sort of artistic thread in part 3?
Johnny Knoxville: I’ve been doing stuff with bulls for year.
Crave Online: But it really defined the structure of Jackass #2.
Johnny Knoxville: Oh, did we have structure? No, I do prove Roger Miller right in this film. You cannot roller skate in a buffalo herd.
Crave Online: What was the most harrowing stunt we’ll see?
Johnny Knoxville: There was a lot of harrowing stunts you’ll get to see.
Crave Online: What’s one that’s still traumatic to think about?
Johnny Knoxville: I don't know if anything’s traumatic but I almost broke my neck being the invisible man.
Crave Online: You guys survive everything it seems.
Johnny Knoxville: Yeah, it’s weird.
Crave Online: Is that the triumph of the human spirit?
Johnny Knoxville: You’d think Darwin would just f***ing get rid of us.
