Sundance 2014 VIDEO: Elijah Wood & The Producers of Cooties

Eljah Wood explains where the horror-comedy Cooties came from, why he originally didn’t want to star, and how to keep hardcore horror fans satisfied.

Elijah Wood doesn't just star in the horror comedy Cooties, which premiered this weekend at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, he also produced the film with his partners Daniel Noah and Josh Waller. The film stars Eljiah Wood as a substitute teacher whose first day of school comes with the usual problems: griping teachers, lousy parking spaces and a swarm of homicidal children infected with a virus after eating contaminated chicken nuggets.

We sat down with Elijah Wood, Daniel Noah and Josh Waller at Sundance to talk about where the idea for the film came from, why Wood originally didn't want to star in the film, how many children they had to kill on-screen to please the hardcore horror fans, and how carefully they had to portray those murders to keep the film marketable.
